Drug And Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs

Drug and alcohol rehabilitation is usually a last resort for an addict.  It can be at the behest of family and friends, it can be court ordered or it can even be self-initiated.

People who go to drug and alcohol rehabilitation have usually had some very bad experiences with one or the other or both.  Once drugs and alcohol start to dictate behaviors, drug and alcohol rehabilitation is the best course of action.

The good thing about inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation is the complete separation between the addict and their environment.  Outpatient care is less effective because the addict still lives in the same place and sees the same people.

The effectiveness of inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation really rests on the addict.  Someone that goes into drug and alcohol rehabilitation at the behest of others is less likely to fully participate in the offered programs.

At most good drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs, almost every moment of the patient’s day is scheduled with activities and therapies.  There has to be a small amount of free time, but not much.

Faith based drug and alcohol rehabilitation have a lot of religious study during treatment.  Other non-faith based drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs at least nod toward God with the twelve-step program.

Accommodations vary widely in the drug and alcohol rehabilitation community.  Rich people get very comfortable accommodations while trying to kick their habits.  Poor and indigent people get a lot less luxury in overcrowded drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs.

Health insurance companies generally cover a short stay in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program.  Addiction is truly a health issue.  It is not just bad choices that lead some people to addiction.

Drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are full of people that have genetic predispositions to addictive behaviors.  Children of alcoholics are often alcoholics as well.

Some drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs will treat the addict in the hospital setting and the addict’s family will be required some participation on an outpatient basis.  Programs where entire families start to heal together experience more success.
